Langtang Valley Trek: The Closest Himalayan Adventure from Kathmandu

The Langtang Valley Trek is the closest major Himalayan trek from Kathmandu — just a 3-hour jeep ride to Syabrubesi and you’re on the trail. The 7-day route reaches Kyanjin Gompa (3870m) and offers close-up views of Langtang Lirung (7227m) without the long approach of EBC or Annapurna.

The Route

Day 1: Drive Kathmandu to Syabrubesi (1450m). Day 2: Trek to Lama Hotel (2480m) through bamboo and rhododendron forest. Day 3: Climb to Langtang village (3430m), still rebuilding after the 2015 earthquake. Day 4: Short walk to Kyanjin Gompa (3870m). Day 5: Acclimatization — climb Kyanjin Ri (4773m) for sunrise. Days 6-7: Reverse to Syabrubesi and drive back.

Why Langtang?

Langtang is ideal if you have only a week. The valley is lush, the Tamang culture is warm and welcoming, and the cheese factory at Kyanjin produces famous yak cheese. You’ll also see the reconstruction efforts after the devastating 2015 earthquake.

Gear

Langtang is a moderate trek — no high passes. A -5°C sleeping bag, fleece, rain shell, and trekking poles are sufficient. Our Langtang package is USD 18/day.

Best Time

October to November and March to May. The forest is especially beautiful in spring when rhododendrons bloom.
