Three Passes Trek: The Ultimate Everest Region Loop
If you’ve already done EBC and want more, the Three Passes Trek is the answer. This 20-day loop crosses three high passes above 5300m: Renjo La (5360m), Cho La (5420m), and Kongma La (5535m). You’ll see the Gokyo Lakes, reach EBC, and climb three viewpoints — all in one epic circuit.
The Route
Starting in Lukla, the trail splits from the classic EBC route at Namche. You’ll cross Renjo La first (reaching Gokyo), then Cho La (entering the EBC valley), then Kongma La on the way to Chhukung. Each pass day is 8-10 hours with significant elevation gain and loss.
Gear for the Passes
All three passes can have ice and snow, even in peak season. You need crampons (semi-rigid), trekking poles, an ice axe (for safety on Cho La in shoulder seasons), a -20°C down jacket, and Cat 4 sunglasses. Our Three Passes package includes everything for USD 25/day.
Acclimatization
With three passes above 5300m, altitude is the biggest risk. Plan at least 3 acclimatization days (Namche, Gokyo, Dingboche) and descend immediately if symptoms develop.
Best Season
April-May and October-November only. Winter brings deep snow on the passes; summer brings clouds and rain.
Cost
Budget USD 1800-2200 for 20 days including guide, permits, food, and lodging. Gear rental adds USD 500 if rented for the full 20 days.
